Transitional Housing in the Mission District (Ongoing)

2023

The current issue of homelessness in San Francisco due to eviction, lack of housing rights, and discrimination against marginalized and low-income groups, has resulted in an increased amount of people on the streets. Transitional housing can become part of the healing process by providing a safe environment to live with others coming from similar backgrounds to promote communal activities for developing healthy relationships with others, and to learn essential home and self-management skills to independently take care of themselves and feel more comfortable when they transition back into society. The building, located at the corner of 16th and Mission St, is a series of recombined clusters that have undergone transformations of multiplication, vertical and horizontal shifting, rotation, and merging to create overlapping enclosures for private housing units with open courtyard spaces for communal activities, including communal kitchens and skill-teaching classes.
